What a Missouri adult day care license means

Missouri licenses adult day care programs through the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) under 19 CSR 30-90. The rule defines an adult day care program as a group program that provides care and supervision for five or more functionally impaired adults for more than two but less than 24 hours a day, away from their own home. The license sets the number of participants who may be present at one time, and the rule requires at least two direct care staff when 2 to 16 participants are present plus one more for each additional eight or part of eight. A program with a separate unit for people with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, or that markets dementia care, must file an Alzheimer's special care disclosure with DHSS. A license does not rate quality or price; ask for the fee schedule and the latest inspection.
