How we verify
Adult Day Care Index is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.
Sources
- Texas HHSC: Day Activity and Health Services — HHSC's DAHS page with the directories of facilities with an active license (traditional DAHS and ISS-only), which we load weekly.
- Texas HHSC: Individualized Skills and Socialization — HHSC's page on ISS, the day service for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities in the HCS, TxHmL and DBMD waivers.
- Missouri DHSS: Adult Day Care — The Department of Health and Senior Services page for adult day care licensing and its directory.
- Missouri ADC directory (data.mo.gov) — The open-data directory of licensed adult day care programs with capacity, hours and Alzheimer's unit.
- NYC Aging: Social Adult Day Care — NYC Aging's page on SADC registration, standards and complaints.
- NYC Open Data: Social Adult Day Care Services — NYC Aging's list of registered and contracted SADC programs with hours by day.
- NPPES NPI Registry (CMS) — The federal registry of National Provider Identifiers; we use organizations whose primary taxonomy is Clinic/Center, Adult Day Care (261QA0600X).
Texas: we load both HHSC directories of Day Activity and Health Services facilities with an active license (traditional DAHS, and Individualized Skills and Socialization only). Every row is listed by HHSC as an active license and gets the Licensed (Texas HHSC) badge. A few rows carry a license expiration date that has already passed; HHSC still lists them as active, and the profile says so.
Missouri: we load the Department of Health and Senior Services ADC directory, which lists every licensed adult day care program, with maximum capacity, days and hours, director, provider and whether it has an Alzheimer's unit.
New York City: we load NYC Aging's list of registered and contracted social adult day care programs. NYC Aging writes hours as 12-hour times without AM or PM; we read opening times from 6 to 11 as AM and closing times as PM. Anticipated daily attendance, year established, languages, ADA compliance and NYS OMIG compliance certification are what each program reported to NYC Aging; the profile labels them that way, and we show the ADA and OMIG items only when the program answered yes. The badge says Registered (NYC Aging), because NYC Aging states that registration is not a license.
Other states: we list organizations with an active NPI whose self-reported primary taxonomy is Clinic/Center, Adult Day Care, leaving out records not updated since 2015 (many belong to closed centers). In Texas and Missouri, where the state lists every licensed program, an NPI is only added as a fact to a state-listed center with the same name, phone or street address at the same ZIP, and NPI-only records are not listed. The NPI badge is not a state license.
We never publish inspection or complaint findings from a heuristic match, and never show email addresses. Order within a city: state-listed centers first by licensed capacity, then NPI-registered centers, then alphabetical. Featured listings appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.
What a badge means
Licensed or registered: the listing comes from an official source: a Texas HHSC or Missouri DHSS licensing directory, NYC Aging's list of registered social adult day care programs, or an active NPI in the federal NPPES registry. Each profile's badge names its source. A badge means the record is listed; it is not a quality rating. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.
