What a Texas DAHS license means
Texas licenses adult day centers as Day Activity and Health Services (DAHS) facilities through the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), under 26 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 559. A DAHS facility provides daytime care away from home, including nursing and personal care, meals, and therapeutic activities, for adults who live in the community. Individualized Skills and Socialization (ISS) is a day service for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities in the HCS, TxHmL and DBMD waiver programs; ISS providers also hold a DAHS license (26 TAC 559, Subchapter H). A license shows the center is registered with and inspected by the state; it does not rate quality or price. Ask for the current rate sheet and the most recent inspection.
Check the source before you enroll. Look up the license or registration number with the state agency linked above, ask which payers the center accepts, and visit during program hours.
